October 13, 2009- At a press conference today, at City Hall, the Shield of Athena Family Services was pleased to introduce the 16th Annual Art Auction and the organization’s ongoing intervention with women victims of family violence and their children

This year’s auction will be a tribute to children exposed to violence. Drawings done by children who have stayed at our shelter or received services at our centers will be displayed at the event to offer a small glimpse into the sad and frightful reality of children exposed to violence and their feelings, worries and hopes.

Also featured at the Shield of Athena’s 16 Annual Art Auction will be artwork from the Cycle Two Students of Dunrae Gardens Elementary School with the theme Safe at Home to showcase efforts to support non-violence for children in the home environment.

The Auction will take place on Sunday November 8, 2009 at Marché Bonsecours with 32 local and national artists in support of our cause. There will be a cocktail before the main event as well as a silent auction, and a drawing for a wonderful door prize. Special guest, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau will auction the first of 93 paintings. Proceeds will help women and children victims of family violence.

Founded in 1991, the Shield of Athena Family Services is a non-profit community organization with an extensive network of services which includes: a Montreal and Laval office, a shelter for women victims of violence and their children, and a multilingual public awareness and community outreach campaign.
