Norma Lehrer

Born and educated in Montreal, I am a graduate of Concordia University, B.A. in Fine Arts and M.A. in art education (1978). My work reflects a wide variety of professional and academic experience. I have worked as an illustrator and graphic artist for the newspapers, magazines and designed 3 dimensional displays for advertising. I have worked in many media and materials and have taught drawing painting and fashion design at the secondary and university levels from 1978 to 2005.

Painting has been a constant thread of expression for me throughout my adult life and continues to be my choice of media to communicate my emotions. My work follows a thematic approach, my subject matter ranges from expressive landscape nature and the figure all drawn from my personal experience. I love to work with watercolour and acrylic because the direct quality of theses two media allow for an expressive and spontaneous approach to the subject working with bright overlapping colours, weaving patterns and textures which flow through my work.

I have participated in numerous juried shows at Galerie Stewart Hall, Galerie McClure, Westmount, Galerie Pink, Ogilvy, Maison des Arts du Haut Richelieu, Maison de la culture de Saint-Henri, Galerie de la Ville de Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Galerie Shorer etc.
