OSCAR DE LALL. R.C.A.
Internationally known and respected Canadian artist Oscar De Lall (RCA) was born in St-Petersburg, Russia in1903, and died in Montreal in 1971. De Lall was educated at the naval college in Russia, and following his discharge from the navy moved to North America. De Lall’s career began after settling in Montreal in 1930. De Lalls’ first recognition as an artist came in 1933 when he was commissioned to do charcoal sketches of 27 McGill University professors. De Lall was then officially recognized for his talent when, on March 3rd 1947, he was appointed as Associate of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (A.R.C.A.). In 1958 he was appointed as an Academician (R.C.A.) of the Academy. De Lall is known for his works in oil and charcoal. His portraits are realistic and his landscapes capture the vibrant colours and beauty of the Laurentian region of Quebec where he made his home. His works are part of the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa, Ontario) and in private collections in the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, South America, and South Africa.
