The Shield of Athena’s
2010-2011 Membership Campaign Launch
“An Evening of Laughter…To End Violence!”

June 4, 2010- Chris Ann Nakis, owner of Baton Rouge de la Montagne welcomed over 200 guests Wednesday night for the Shield of Athena’s 2010-2011 Membership Campaign Launch. Nearly $25 000 was raised for the organization’s multilingual support, prevention and intervention services to victims of family violence.

Guests enjoyed fabulous cocktails, a delectable dinner and a comedy show courtesy of special guest star “The Hit man of Hilarity” Angelo Tsarouchas. “When I saw the drawings of children who are victims of abuse, in the Shield of Athena’s art therapy program, there was no way that I could refuse this cause.” said Angelo who performs for sold out audiences at comedy festivals around the globe.

Chairperson of this year’s event, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau was moved by everyone’s support and particularly with the great number of men who were present to take a stand in eradicating violence against women. Emphasizing that “it is a basic human right for children to be raised in an environment free of violence” she expressed her admiration for the Shield of Athena workers who work with children so as to help break the cycle of abuse.

Attendees won several prizes, including Montreal Impact tickets, a football signed by the 2009 Grey cup champions- the Montreal Alouettes, beautiful paintings, boxing gloves signed by world champions Lucian Bute and Eric Lucas, a stay at the Place D’Armes Hotel & Suites and last but not least……2 tickets to anywhere in North America courtesy of Air Canada, Kids’ Horizon.
