Sandy Baylin

Sandy Baylin’s inspiration is rooted in nature: the passing seasons, the freshness of the outdoors, snow, the vertical upward thrust of trees, and the waters of lakes and rivers. Spending more than fifty years in the Laurentians northwest of Montreal, she captures the essence of this dearly loved mountainous area on canvas.

Baylin’s colours are alive and fresh. One can see the movement and rhythm of the artist’s broken brushstrokes and the feel of their energetic application, sensing the mood and atmosphere of the day. She paints with a unique style that is easily recognizable even to an untrained eye. Often, there is an air of tranquility in her compositions. Always painting at a good pace ‘en plein air’, the use of acrylic is a perfect medium for Baylin. Her connection to the land is measured by the ever-changing light and atmosphere of her surroundings. Baylin does not pursue to memorialize details of the landscape in front of her. Rather, she successfully captures the essence of the day in her work. Her compositions welcome the viewer into the landscape, personalizing the relationship between the two.
Baylin also finds beauty in restful still life and in interiors, emphasizing curves in form, a pastel palette, and a pleasant balance in both composition and in simplified design. She hopes to share with the viewer these personal, meaningful and joyful life segments that are close to her heart.
Baylin has exhibited extensively, participating in both juried group and solo shows. She has been awarded recognition for some of her canvases from well-established art organizations in Montreal. For contact or for further info: sandy.baylin@gmail.com
