Under the Honorary Chairmanship of Tom and Gwen Nacos, the Shield of Athena Family Services held its 15th Annual Art Exhibition and Auction on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Bonsecours Market in Old Montreal. The event raised funds for professional and counselling services for women and children who are victims of conjugal and family violence, at our offices and also for our shelter, Athena’s House. For this special 15th anniversary, we honoured one of the most prominent members of the Hellenic community in Montreal, Madame Justice Dionysia Zerbisias of the Superior Court of Quebec.

The event drew more than 450 guests, a record for the Shield.

Art selection committee 

All works for the Art Auction were chosen by the Shield's Art Selection Committee.

The Committee is an independent committee of artists who are all individuals with training in fine arts and are completely autonomous.  No committee member, nor any person who is not at arm's length to the committee member, may submit artwork for consideration in the Auction. The Committee’s decisions are final.

The members of the 2008 Art Selection committee:

Sofia Tseretzoulias (2008 Chair):Sofia Tseretzoulias (Chair)
Ms Tseretzoulias has a strong training in fine arts and fashion design and has been involved in the artistic community for many years. She holds a Bachelor's degree in fine arts from Concordia University. Ms Tseretzoulias is a Shield board member and serves as liaison between the Committee and the board. She has been on the art selection committee for the past three years. She is a co-founder of the independent Selection Committee at the Shield

Saeyong Kim: (Past Chair)
Mr. Kim is a media art specialist with a passion for art history, visual arts, media arts, art exhibition and photography. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, with a concentration in Visual Arts and Arts Administration from the University of Ottawa. At the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York, NY (May 2002 – Aug 2002), he organized and installed the art exhibition “Moving Picture”. Mr. Kim has worked in art galleries and museums for the past ten years, including the Gallery Samuel Lallouz in Montreal. He was a co-founder of the independent Art Selection Committee at the Shield.

Micheline Lamarre-Hadjis:
Ms. Lamarre-Hadjis is a professional artist who has exhibited in many galleries, locally and internationally, through the internet. She has been involved with the Beaconsfield Artists' Association where she was publicity chairman and then president. This is Ms. Lamarre-Hadjis’s first year as a member of the Art Selection Committee.
