Janusz Migacz

Janusz Migacz was born in Gdansk, Poland, where he sutdied at the Akademia Sztuk Pieknych W Ggansku and Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. He spent five years studying with the great polish painter, Kazimierz Ostrowski. Fascinated by the work of Mark Rotko and Francis Bacon, he then moved to London where he spent two years painting and exploring galleries.

Since 1988, he has lived in Montreal, completely devoting himself to his art. He works with oil on canvas, as well as paper and ink. His painting is above all intuitive and expressiveness plays a role of great importance. Human bodies in motion, particularly female forms, are the focal point in his work and he brings to life their powerful silent expressions on his canvas. Through the contrasts of striking shadows, elusive lights and a moving body’s finesse, he expresses human passions and the precariousness of life.
