Pearl Eliadis

Pearl Eliadis is a human rights lawyer in private practice. A McGill and Oxford graduate, she is a principal of her Montreal-based law firm, RightsLaw

Pearl Eliadis is admitted to the Quebec and Ontario Bars, and is a member of the expert human rights committees of the the Québec Bar Association and the Canadian Bar Association (Quebec).  Ms Eliadis teaches Civil Liberites at McGill University's Faculty of law, and has worked in Rwanda, Timor Leste, Ethiopia, Nepal and Tajikistan for clients including the UN, the European Commission, NGOs and international consortia.  She is Past President of Equitas, and a member of its Honourary Board. She is is on the human rights advisory council of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and serves on several NGO boards, including Canadian Lawyers Abroad andthe equality effect, an international NGO working with Kenyan lawyers to combat violence against girls and women in sub-Saharan Africa.  

Recipient of the Canada 125 Medal, the 2006 Women of Distinction Award (Y des Femmes, Montreal), and the 2009 Woman of the Year Award (Montreal Council of Women), Pearl Eliadis has published several books and articles on human rights law, constitutional law and women's rights. She is on the Editorial Board of the Federated Press journal Charter and Human Rights Litigation.
 
She is immediate past president of the Shield and has been a Board member since 2002.
