2016 Annual art Auction

WELCOME TO THE 22ND ANNUAL ART AUCTION

SPONSORSHIP OR ADVERTISEMENT OPPORTUNITIES 2016

The Art Auction is  the Shield of Athena’s major annual fund raising event. A glittering gathering of 400-plus guests, the Auction also raises awareness about family violence. The first art auction  was held in 1994 at  the Town of Mount Royal City  Hall.  There were originally 12 participating artists and 40 works of art. Today, in its 22nd year,  it has become a signature event, that raises money for victims of family violence, primarily women and children. The  event is  always popular, both for the cause it supports and for the quality of art that can be obtained at reasonable prices.  The participating artists are a mix of professionals and amateurs from all walks of life and diverse ethnic origins.

MESSAGE OF THE PRESIDENT: CHRIS ANN NAKIS

Dear friend,

I am very happy to support The Shield of Athena’s 22nd Annual Art Auction. Once again this year, we will host a fabulous event, sure to attract many guests wanting to support a wonderful cause and eager to bid on beautiful paintings.

The Art Auction has become a staple event in Montreal as it raises awareness about family violence and promotes many talented Montreal and international artists. It is the Shield’s main fundraiser, in support of its multilingual services that are offered at its 2 offices and its emergency shelter, Athena’s House.

This year, proceeds will also go towards our new project: A 2nd Step Shelter for victims of family violence.  The government has approved this project, the land has been purchased and we are getting closer and closer to building our new resource. If all goes as planned, we will be breaking ground in the  spring of 2017. This new resource will have 17 apartments where moms and their children  will receive long term, affordable and safe housing. They will also be offered support, intervention and follow up services, that are essential  towards rebuilding an independent life free of violence.

Such a resource is needed because:

  • Over 20 000 women are admitted in Quebec’s 126  emergency shelters annually
  • However,  in 2016, ONLY 11 2nd step shelters existed with 100 spaces
  • 1 OUT OF 3 WOMEN will  continue to need a safe place and security after their stay at an emergency shelter

This year, the 22nd Annual Art Auction will be held on Sunday November 13 at Marché Bonsecours.   In addition to the beautiful paintings up for auction, guests also have fun participating in a Silent Auction where they can bid on items including jewelry, sports memorabilia and certificates to Montreal’s finest restaurants. As in previous years, there will also be plenty of food and drink for our supporters and a fabulous door prize!

A beautiful souvenir book is created to commemorate the event.  Please refer to the attached form that describes all of the SPONSORSHIP OR ADVERTISEMENT OPPORTUNITIES that are available. In appreciation of your generous contribution, you or your company will receive certain benefits such as free tickets and continuing visibility, before, during and after the event.

Please join us at the 22nd Annual Art Auction. We look forward to seeing you! If you have any questions regarding the Shield or our upcoming event contact us at 514-274-8117 or at bouclierdathena@bellnet.ca.
